Seize the Moment

We’re reminded of a woman who boldly approached Jesus despite feeling unwelcome and judged by others. She teaches us the importance of staying focused on our purpose. Pastor Jeff challenges us to seize the moments we have to encounter Jesus and not let distractions or doubts hold us back. He emphasizes how true worship requires breaking free from our comfort zones and giving everything we have to honor Him.

Sermon Highlights & Key Points

  • Boldness of the Woman

The woman entered the room where Jesus was, knowing she wasn’t welcome. She wasn’t there for the people; she was solely focused on Jesus.

  • Know Your Purpose

It’s important to remember why we come to church and seek Jesus—don’t let people’s opinions distract you from your goal.

  • Seize the Moment

Each moment is unique and will never come back. Don’t miss the opportunity to connect with God.

  • Worship is Sacrificial

Worshipping God may cost us something, but it’s essential to offer our best—our praises and ourselves.

  • Aroma of Worship

True worship fills the atmosphere. As we give our all to Jesus, it can shift the environment around us.

Key Scriptures

  • Luke 7:36-50 (NKJV) – A Sinful Woman Forgiven

Then, one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to eat. And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil. Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, “This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.” And Jesus answered and said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” So he said, “Teacher, say it.” “There was a certain creditor who had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me, therefore, which of them will love him more?” Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have rightly judged.” Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in. You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil. Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.” Then He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” And those who sat at the table with Him began to say to themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” Then He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”

  • Psalms 100:4 (NKJV) – Enter God’s Presence with Gratitude

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.

  • John 4:24 (NKJV) – Worship God in Spirit and Truth

God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

Discussion Questions

  • Why do you think the woman didn’t care about what others said about her?

  • How can having a clear purpose help us in worship?

  • Can you think of a time when you seized a moment to connect with God? What was special about that moment for you?

  • Pastor Jeff talks about breaking the alabaster box as a symbol of true worship. What do you think it means to “break” something in your life to worship God? How can we “break the box” in our lives?

  • How can we shift the atmosphere around us with our worship?

Closing Thoughts, Challenge, and Prayer Prompt

Every time we worship, it’s a chance to meet with Jesus. Just like the woman who bravely walked into the room, we can approach Him without fear or worry about what others think. Our moments with God are special and unique, and they give us the chance to experience His love and healing. So, let’s not hold back—let’s seize every opportunity we have to worship Him fully, knowing that He loves to meet us right where we are.

Challenge: Find a moment to intentionally worship God, no matter what your surroundings are like. It could be through prayer, singing, or just talking to Him. Make it personal and meaningful.

Father, help us to be bold like the woman who seized her moment with You. Teach us to let go of our fears and distractions so we can worship You freely. May our lives be filled with Your presence, and may we recognize and embrace the opportunities You give us to connect with You. Amen.
